“Hello,” my son Cliff answered the phone.
“I got approved! I got approved!” said an excited voice with a melodic tone. Then the caller hung up. Cliff recognized the voice.

A few seconds later… Ring, ring, ring. Cliff picked up the phone again.
“I got approved! I got approved!” the melodic voice chuckled a bit. Then click. Cliff smiled while shaking his head.

What made the caller very excited? A red Corvette! That’s what.

It’s almost every young man’s dream to own a fancy sports car, especially a Corvette. My son Cliff was selling his corvette and so he advertised it. Several people called wanting the car.

Of those who showed interest was Mike, a fortyish bricklayer. He has worked hard all his life and the idea of buying a sports car with his meager income was impractical. But the red corvette looked great in the ad and the price though high, seemed affordable. He will have to cut down on a few things for his family to afford a new car note. Seeing the car for the first time, he loved it and took it for a spin.

“I want this car! I want this car! It’s been my dream to own a Vette! Man, can you hold it for me while I apply for a loan?”

Upon seeing Mike’s excitement, Cliff promised the car to Mike. Hence, a few weeks later, Cliff got Mike’s excited phone call…“I got approved!”

How about you? Do you get excited when things happen in your favor? In this world we are constantly applying for approvals: for jobs, for loans, for admissions, for other things. And during the process of applying and the intense waiting, we go through varied emotions: hopeful, happy, optimistic, confident, then discouragement, hopelessness, then SILENCE. The fear of failure results into a state of emotional stress. When finally, approval comes! Then our EXCITEMENT soars.

All my life I’ve always waited for approvals. Approvals for: admission in schools, internship, graduation, to come to the U.S., a job, to be loved, for marriage, for loans, etc., etc.

But there is one ULTIMATE approval that I wish to have – that is – the APPROVAL to enter HEAVEN – to live forever with my Heavenly Father – Jesus Christ.

How about you? Do you want to go to heaven?” I hope your answer is a resounding “Yes.” Some people say there are many ways to go to heaven, but the Holy Scriptures clearly tell us that there is only one way to enter the kingdom of heaven and that is God’s way… through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. John 14:6 – “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

And how do we qualify for heaven?

Mark 10: 13-16: “People were bringing little children to Jesus to have Him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’ And He took the children in His arms, put His hands on them and blessed them.”

Jesus says except we become as a little child, and remain this way, we will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus wants us to experience a conversion and become as little children. Once a person passes from darkness into the light, they are a new creature in Christ, and that new creature is very similar to an innocent, humble, little child.

Small children see everything as a happy learning experience. They do not hold grudges and when upset by something, they usually feel better in no time and forget what had upset them in the first place. Jesus demands that His chosen be like little children.

On day I asked my friend Curtis, “Do you want to go to heaven? Have you accepted Jesus Christ to be your personal Savior?

“Reva, I’m basically good. I believe I will go to heaven.” He answered me. He did not say that he had accepted Jesus Christ.

And still, not everyone who calls themselves Christians will go to heaven. Matthew 7:2 says, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.”

“I got approved! I got approved!” This I wish to shout when finally, I have my approval to meet Jesus in the air on my way to HEAVEN.
